Our Story

Cantîn Conwy is a thriving cafe located at the Conwy Culture Centre. The centre contains the county archive, an area library, heritage exhibitions, a community arts hub, meeting room, and café. The building is on the site of the old Bodlondeb School which was built in 1897. The council wanted the branding of the cafe to be heavily influenced by designs created by the local school children in Conwy. The council held a creative workshop with Criw Celf - a local arts organisation, and the children came up with lots of designs that reflected the surrounding area. One in particular stood out as it was bold, clean and minimal, much like the architecture of the building.

The name 'Cantîn' is a Welsh translation of the word 'canteen'. The colour palette has been lifted straight from old school exercise books, 'jotters' as they were called in school - the dusty blue, green and coral colours can be seen used in the menus and even in the crockery used at the cafe.

Cantîn is run by local Rhos-on-Sea resident Sally Williams who has owned the cafe since its opening in 2020. Sally has an extensive background in the catering industry, having previously run several successful businesses in the local area.
